2026-2028 Goals & Projects

1. Statewide Membership Directory Project: Develop and maintain an updated statewide directory of County Boards of Social Services, DSS directors, board leadership, and appropriate contact information. The goal is to improve communication and make it easier for members across North Carolina to connect and share information.

2. Board Member Training Program: Develop a structured training program specifically for County Social Services Board members. Training will focus on the responsibilities and authority of local boards, effective governance, working with DSS directors, board ethics, confidentiality, evaluations, leadership, and other topics necessary for effective board service.

3. Improved Member Communication: Establish more consistent communication between NCACBSS leadership and members. This may include regular email updates, website updates, meeting notices, association news, legislative information, training opportunities, and other resources relevant to local boards.

4. NCACBSS Facebook and Social Media Presence: Establish an official NCACBSS Facebook presence to complement the association website. Social media can help us promote meetings, training opportunities, Social Services Institute activities, member accomplishments, important announcements, and the work Boards of Social Services are doing throughout North Carolina.

5. Quarterly Membership Meetings: Establish a more consistent quarterly meeting schedule to provide members with opportunities to receive association updates, discuss issues affecting county boards, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships among members from different areas of the state.

6. Increase Participation from All 100 Counties: Make a concentrated effort to increase NCACBSS participation and representation from counties throughout North Carolina. This includes identifying counties that are not currently active and reaching out to their board members and DSS leadership to explain the benefits of participation.

7. Strengthen Regional Engagement: Encourage Regional Directors to serve as stronger connections between NCACBSS and the counties within their regions. Regional communication can help identify local concerns, increase participation, recruit new members, and ensure that issues from across the state are represented.

8. Expand Website Resources for Board Members: Continue developing the NCACBSS website into a central resource for members. Potential additions could include training materials, association documents, meeting information, officer and director information, board member resources, useful links, announcements, and information from the Social Services Institute.

9. Strengthen the Social Services Institute Partnership: Continue supporting and strengthening NCACBSS participation in the annual Social Services Institute, including educational programming specifically designed for board members and opportunities for board members, DSS directors, state partners, and other stakeholders to interact.

10. Member Recruitment and Engagement Initiative: Develop an organized effort to recruit new members, retain current members, and encourage greater participation in meetings, committees, training programs, and association leadership.
